Common Sense Media

Each year students in second through sixth grade are taught digital citizenship and cyber safety lessons during library class. We use resources from Common Sense Media--Common Sense Media is a great resource for educators and is also great for parents and guardians.  They offer reviews of music, video games, books, movies, TV shows, etc. to help you choose media that is appropriate for your child.  It also offers articles and tips on how to protect you and your child while surfing the Internet.
To access all they have to offer visit: www. commonsensemedia.org

Reading for Education Fundraiser and Pittsburgh Pierogi Truck

This week, your child should have brought home two fundraisers for our school. The first one is the Reading For Education Fundraiser. This is a simple fundraiser that requires no selling at all. Simply complete the address book and return it to the school by next Thursday, February 1st by 9:00 am. Students will receive a prize for returning the book and their names will be entered into a drawing to win a remote control Minion. Our school will receive .50 cents for each post card completed, so each full booklet could earn us $5.50!
The other fundraiser is the Pittsburgh Pierogi Truck pierogi's. This was such a popular fundraiser last year, so hopefully it will be again this year! Please return the tally sheet along with your check or money order made payable to Center PTA (NO CASH) by Wednesday, February 7th at 12:00 noon. NO LATE ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Delivery will be on Thursday, February 22nd, from 4-5:00 pm. If you are ordering, please be sure to pick your orders up on that day and time as we do not have the space to keep them for you.
As always, we thank you for your continued support. By fundraising, we raise the money needed to give back to our students and staff in the way of assemblies, school folders, movie day treats, field trip t shirts, field trips, year end carnival and so much more.

Congratulations Honors Band Participants!

Congratulations to Nathaniel Beninati (7th Grade, Trombone, AEO), Isabella Caruso (7th Grade, Flute, AEO), and Elena Bartolomeo (6th Grade, Clarinet, Center Elementary), who performed in a magnificent concert on Saturday!  These students qualified by audition in the fall and worked hard to prepare repertoire over the last few months.  Congratulations, students!!!

Holiday Shop Thank You!

We hope you enjoyed the surprises your children carefully selected just for you from the Holiday Shop @ Center!  We just wanted to send a "Thank you" to those who took time out of their busy schedules to come and volunteer at the Holiday Shop this year.  It is a big event for the students—one that they look forward to each year—and requires many hands for it to run smoothly.  Whether you were able to help for a few hours or from start to finish, we were very grateful. The students so enjoyed shopping.  Also, thank you to everyone who donated wrapping paper, tape and gift tags!
Thanks so much!
